Walking Your Talk (Even on Customer Service Calls) | The Law of Giving and Hospitality

The other day, I found myself navigating one of modern life’s small patience tests — trying to get through to a real person on a customer service call.
You know the kind: endless menu options, pressing 0 repeatedly while the chatbot insists that’s not a valid response, and the looped hold music slowly chipping away at your last nerve.
And then — finally — a human gets on the phone.
Now I’ve got a choice:
Is my frustration going to do the talking?
Or can I take a breath and lead with kindness?
These are the moments when our values get real.
It’s easy to say I value compassion, patience, and kindness (which are absolutely some of my soul values).
When I do lead with them, I feel it — grounded, connected, in alignment.
And when I don’t?
I feel that too.
A little off, a little edgy — like I’ve drifted from my inner compass.

Which brings us to the Eighth Law of Karma — The Law of Giving and Hospitality.
💫 What This Law Is Really About
The Law of Giving and Hospitality is all about congruence — making sure our inner values match our outer actions.
It asks:
Are you walking your talk — not just when it’s easy, but when you’re being stretched?
This law also reminds us that what we give from the heart, we do get back — often multiplied.
When we show up with love, patience, compassion, or support — not to get anything in return, but because it’s who we are — we plant seeds that grow in unseen ways.
Life has a way of circling back with the same energy we offer.
Sometimes not right away.
Sometimes not in the same form.
But it always comes back around.
And no, this isn’t about giving until you burn out.
It’s not about self-sacrifice or martyrdom.
It’s about alignment.
🌀 The Real Questions
Are your actions aligned with your inner beliefs?
Are you willing to give, share, support, or show up when life offers you the chance?
Can you offer your time, your energy, your wisdom — even your presence — when it's needed?
These moments — even the tiny ones, like a customer service call — are part of the practice.
They help us strengthen the muscles of our soul values.
They offer a chance to be the kind of presence we want more of in the world.
🤲 Giving Isn’t Just About Money
This law is a reminder that giving isn't only about money.
It’s also:
Giving your presence
Offering a listening ear
Sharing your wisdom or energy
Being someone’s safe space
Offering a kind word or warm welcome
Looking someone in the eye
Sometimes the greatest gift you can give someone is simply to see them.
To sit with them.
To not try to fix them.
The more we live in alignment with who we really are… the more magnetic, grounded, and nourished our lives become.
To help you embody this law in your everyday life, I invite you to listen to this week’s Mindful Moments guided meditation.
It’s designed to help you align with your values, tap into your soul qualities, and show up with intention — even when it’s hard.
