The First Law of Karma: The Law of Cause and Effect

Let’s start with a universal truth: what you put out into the world, you get back.

If you’ve ever rolled your eyes at someone behind their back and immediately stubbed your toe on a chair leg, congratulations—you’ve met the Law of Cause and Effect in real time.

Or maybe as a kid you tried to sneak a cookie before dinner and the entire jar came crashing down in front of your mom.

Yep. Cause. And effect.

I'm excited to do a bit of a summer series, something to inspire you week by week. Welcome to Week 1 of The 12 Laws of Karma.

Over the next 12 weeks, we'll journey through the energetic principles that quietly (or sometimes loudly) shape our lives. Whether you're paying attention or not, these laws are always at play.

And we’re kicking it off with the first law: The Law of Cause and Effect.

This law is as simple as it is powerful:

Every action has a corresponding reaction.

Every thought, word, and action sets energy in motion.

And that energy doesn't dissipate. It circulates. It loops. It finds its way back to you—dressed pretty much in the same outfit it was wearing when you first sent it out.

Karma Isn’t About Punishment—It’s About Patterns

Let’s clear something up: Karma isn't the Universe’s way of punishing you.

It’s not cosmic revenge. It’s energetic equivalents.

Think of it like planting seeds. You don’t plant a tomato seed and expect a watermelon to pop out of the soil.

If you plant judgment, resentment, or frantic chaos—you’ll grow more of the same.

If you plant compassion, generosity, and conscious intention? That’s the harvest you’ll eventually get to enjoy.

The Law of Cause and Effect reminds us that we’re always creating—even when we’re unaware.

So how do you work with this law to make your life better?

• Get honest about what you’re putting out. Your energy precedes you.

❓How are you engaging with people?

❓What conversations are you having?

❓What thoughts are you dwelling on?

❓How do you speak to yourself when no one is around?

• Make choices that align with who you want to be––not just who you’ve been.

Today is a product of who you were yesterday. Tomorrow will reflect who you are today.

• Don’t expect the universe to deliver joy if you’re secretly (or not so secretly) complaining 80% of the time. That math doesn’t math.

Remember: You don’t get what you want. You get what you are.

And that’s actually great news—because it means you’re not powerless.

You're not a victim in the world. You're a powerful creator, capable of shaping your life with each conscious thought, word and choice.

You get to plant something new whenever you're ready to experience something different.

Ready to Put This Into Practice?

I created a five-minute guided meditation to help you align with this first law. It’s called:

In just five minutes, you’ll ground your energy, set a powerful intention, and consciously plant the vibrations you want to grow in your life.

It’s short, sweet, and potent—just like the law itself.

Let’s stop spinning in circles and start planting on purpose.

See you next week for Law #2!
